Child Maltreatment Report 2023

Description

The National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS) collects state-level data about child abuse and neglect known to child protective services agencies. The NCANDS team validates and analyzes the data and produces an annual report on behalf of the Children’s Bureau. Child Maltreatment 2023 is the 34th edition in the annual series, which was publicly released Jan. 8, 2025. The report is based on federal fiscal year data annually submitted by 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

The report includes six chapters, 50 data tables, and is triple the size of the first report released in 1992. Child Maltreatment 2023 and prior reports in the series are available on the Children’s Bureau website.
